PORT ROYAL, Pa. — Anthony Macri raced to his second victory of the week during Wednesday night’s sixth round of the 34th annual PA Sprint Speedweek presented by Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews.
Michael Walter and Chase Dietz made up the front row of the 30-lap A-main event, and Walter jumped out to the early lead once the green flag dropped.
The Selinsgrove driver would lead the opening 12 laps of the race before he was run down by third-starter Brent Marks, who would overtake him on the backstretch.
A caution would come out on lap 15 for a slowing Brock Zearfoss on the frontstretch. That would reset the field with the top five as follows: Marks, Macri, Walter, Dietrich, and Logan Wagner.
On the ensuing restart, Macri would take the unconventional route around the speedway working the bottom side of the corners over the next four laps to take the lead away from Marks and ran away for the $10,000 win.
“Like Joe Mooney said it’s a little unconventional,” said Macri in victory lane talking about using the bottom side of the speedway to take the win. “These guys are working really hard this week and giving me a great car all week long. It’s on me just not to mess it up.”
Brent Marks and Logan Wagner would round out the podium for the Weikert Livestock 410 A-main event.
In the United Racing Club 360 sprint car A-main, third-starter Tyler Ross won the 25-lap feature event.
