ROSSBURG, Ohio — Kyle Larson finished second in the second feature of the night during Wednesday’s High Limit Racing Double Down Duels at Eldora Speedway.
The effort was enough for him to end the night second in points behind Donny Schatz and secure a pole starting spot for a heat race for tonight’s Joker’s Jackpot $100,000-to-win event.
Larson said he never had a legitimate chance to pass Giovanni Scelzi who led every lap of the second 25-lapper.
“I don’t know if a yellow would have done much because he would have gotten to restart in clean air. It would have been difficult,” Larson related. “He did a good job. In lapped traffic I couldn’t see him for the majority of the race. He did a really good job in traffic because, in the race before it looked like when the leaders caught traffic they would just stall out. It seemed like when he caught traffic, he got further and further away. Finally, there at the end, we were able to clear a few cars and get really rolling for a few laps. But he did a great job.”
Still, Larson is confident his Paul Silva-prepared No. 57 can contend for the big money.
“My car felt really good. It got better as the race went on,” he said. “I was happy with that. We are sitting OK with points, probably be the pole of a heat. We need to execute that and have a good showing tomorrow night.”
