WARRNAMBOOL, Australia — Knoxville Raceway representatives are in Australia to highlight the Knoxville Nationals Down Under Tour of the 2014 SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge.
More than 20 American drivers are expected to race in Australia this weekend. That will qualify them for the World Challenge during the 54th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals. The World Challenge’s new format started last year. The winner of the World Challenge earns the 25th spot into the A main of the biggest race in sprint cars, the 54th Annual FVP Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store.
Knoxville Raceway General Manager Brian Stickel says the racing in Australia shows the economic impact the worldwide sport brings to Knoxville.
“The SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge is truly an international event with its theme ‘Uniting Nations through Motorsports,’” Stickel said. “Each year, drivers from Australia come to race in Knoxville and Americans head Down Under to race creating the true world flavor of the sport. That’s in addition to all of the dedicated owners and fans who show up to the Nationals every year from Down Under. It has made the sport bigger than ever on an international level and we will look to continue this growth with all of our great partners both here and in the States.”
The SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge will be run Aug. 8 during the 54th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals.
