Dayne Kingshott claimed the second round of the Maddington ToyotaSprintcar Series at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, with the feature race being the Electrical Group Training Sprintcar Westernapolis.
The defending series champion started from pole for the 30-lap feature race and was never headed in the final that went non-stop.
He crossed the line ahead of last round winner, Ryan Newton and former series champion Callum Williamson. The podium result backs up Kingshott’s fifth-place finish in the season opener, at the same venue, one week earlier.
He was second in his qualifying group and went from third to second in his heat race before winning the A Dash from the front row.
Kingshott got the jump on Williamson, who also started on the front row and was into lapped traffic after just a handful of laps were in the books.
He maintained his composure in the fast final, mainly running just off the concrete fence to take the win.
Newton, who was fourth in his qualifying group, started on the front row for his heat race where he dropped back to third.
The Queenslander then moved up two spots to take third in the B Dash, setting up a fifth-place start for the final.
He was up to third by lap four and alternated between third and fourth until lap 17 until he took second – a spot he maintained to the checkers.
Williamson set the Victory 1 Performance Quick Time at the start of the show before taking a second in his heat race and a win in his Dash.
He was in second for the first half of the journey until he dropped to fourth for a while, ultimately getting by Kaiden Manders to claim the final spot on the podium.
Manders held on for fourth, ahead of Kris Coyle who pushed hard and rounded out the top five.
Jamie Maiolo, who started fourth, rolled across the line for sixth, from Andrew Priolo who moved up sixth spots to take seventh after earlier winning the BR Motorsport Midpack race in what was a great recovery.
He was on track to win the Kincrome Hard Charger award, but that honor this week went to Ryan Lancaster who started 15th and finished just behind Priolo in eighth.
Taylor Milling was ninth (after starting 10th), ahead of Jason Kendrick who started ninth, but dropped back to 14th early before coming back to round out the top 10.
Jason Pryde was 11th ahead of Brad Maiolo, Jack Williamson, Aaron Chircop, James Inglis, Michael Keen, Daniel Harding, Trent Pigdon, Jaydee Dack, A.J. Nash, Joel Ettridge, Myles Bolger, Brooke Newson and Wayne Russell, with all 24 cars completing the race.
There was drama at the start of the night for Harding who slapped the wall before even setting a time in qualifying.
As he didn’t set a time, he started eighth in his heat race, moving up three spots for fifth.
He then went from fifth to second in the B Main and from 20th to 17th in the final.
The third round of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series will be held at the Perth Motorplex on Nov. 9, with the feature event being the Scardifields Smash Repairs King of Wings.
