CONCORD, N.C. – Despite not winning a race this week, Kyle Larson improved his position atop the National Sprint Car Rankings.
Larson reached the 50-start plateau and as a result has begun discarding his worst finishes of the season. With 53 races to his credit, Larson’s average finish has dropped to 2.88.
Larson has won a national-best 27 winged sprint car features this season.
Lance Dewease was the big winner over the weekend, banking $53,000 for winning his seventh Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway and defeating Larson along the way.
Dewease is second in the rankings with a 4.5 average finish in 26 starts.
Danny Dietrich, who also leads the Eastern region, jumps to third in this week’s rankings with an average finish of 5.060 in a national-best 64 starts. Dietrich has been dropping his worst finishes since he reached the 50-start plateau several weeks ago.
World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series point leader Brad Sweet ranks fourth, with Ohio driver Cap Henry rounding out the top five.
Eighty-seven drivers have reached the mandatory 20-start plateau to be ranked.
Other regional leaders are Cap Henry (Great Lakes), Sweet (Great Plains), Jacob Patton (Mid-America), Jack Sodeman Jr. (OH-PA) and Justin Sanders (Western).
Ninety-two drivers have won the 259 features run this season.
