It’s Eliason On Night Two At Trophy Cup

TULARE, Calif. — The second night of the Abreu Vineyards Trophy Cup 30 presented by Rudeen Racing returned 63 winged 360 sprints to Tulare Thunderbowl.

Another $5,000-to-win 30-lap main event finished the evening and Cory Eliason collected the check and the 100 points.

Group B qualified first with the order reversed from the day before.   Caeden Steele was quickest at 14.091 and Kaleb Montgomery was fastest in Group A with a 14.762 effort.

Eight heats inverting six moved the winners and high point cars after adding heat points to promote 16 to the A main.  Two B mains moved eight more drivers to the 24-car A main with a 12-car inversion based on points.

Justin Sanders led 9 laps of the A main, but two cars tangled in front of him and he couldn’t avoid contact with the pair.

Cory Eliason inherited the lead and Dolby Copeland took second on lap 14 driving under Dominic Scelzi in turn two.

Copeland made it one better when he took the lead by passing Eliason on the bottom of turn four.  Copeland led the final ten laps for the checkers but not the win.

Copeland was set back two spots for a jump and was credited for third.  liason was the winner ahead of Scelzi, Copeland, and last night’s winner, Justin Peck.

The top five in points going into Saturday are Dominic Scelzi  275, Colby Copeland  273, Cory Eliason 273, Colby Thornhill 272, Justin Sanders 272

Saturday will start with the toughest heat races for the top 48 in points.  Heats will be fully inverted by points with 36 points to win and a three-point drop.

The 20 cars highest in points after the heats will fill rows 3 through 12 in the 50 lap finale. The B main top four will be in the front two rows of the fully inverted lineup.

Around the halfway mark an open red will allow fuel to be added.

Saturday’s A main has two payoffs. Whoever takes the checkers first earns $7,500 and the highest point driver collects $30,000 from the point payout plus whatever earned from three nights of racing.
