WATSONVILLE, Calif. — Dominic Gorden had a night of firsts on Friday as he made his first sprint car start at Ocean Speedway and came home a winner in the Taco Bravo 360 Sprint Car Series.
Gorden drove the Gary Silva Ranches/JI Apparel/Ten J/Smith TI No. 10 owned by his father Mike, leading all 30 laps after starting on the pole due to his victory in the dash.
Finishing second was Kaleb Montgomery, who made a late race charge from his fifth place starting position. Dylan Bloomfield started fourth and finished third.
Gorden’s biggest challenger was Bud Kaeding who started alongside the newcomer. No one has no laps on Ocean Speedway than Kaeding, yet the youngster held off a number of passing attempts by the master Kaeding.Â
Even with double file restarts due to a number of cautions, it was Gorden who managed enough speed and technique to defend the lead.Â
Kaeding resorted to running the top of the track, while Gorden felt the low groove was faster. Kaeding’s decision would cost him two spots in the closing laps.
Montgomery set fast time out of the 25 cars signed into the pit area.Â
