PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Shane Golobic won the opening night 30 lap feature of the Nor-Cal Posse Shootout at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
The Elk Grove, California, driver of the No. 17w for Matt Wood Racing bested Colby Copeland and Tanner Carrick.
Golobic took the lead after a red flag on lap 21 when he tangled with leader Justin Sanders in the four turn. Golobic’s slide job forced the two cars into the tall cushion and resulted in leader Sanders doing a soft roll over. Sanders had led the race up to that point after starting from the outside pole. The season’s leading sprint car feature winner had to be pushed back to the pit area, his car too badly damaged to continue.
With Sanders out of the race, Golobic who started 8th, only had to click off the remaining nine laps. A fast-closing Copeland had indiviaul battles for position on the tight quarter-mile bullriing but couldn’t catch Golobic.
Michael Pombo contiuned his impressive Placerville showing and was running as high as third but would bring out the racels first caution when he got together with Michael Faccinto on the 16th lap. Pombo ended up spinning around giving up his third spot while Faccinto was able to continue.
Sanders and Golobic waged a battle for several laps with Golobic throwing a test slider a lap before the two tangled in the same set of corners. There was one more slow down when two cars spun on the 20th circuit.
The single-file restart allowed Golobic to pull away to a comfortable margin at the checkered flag.
