CHICO, Calif. — Andy Forsberg’s gamble from the previous night paid off as he dominated the second night of the Platinum Cup at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Thursday night.
By race format rules Forsberg was able to scratch his mediocre points finish the previous night and came back to take home a $2,500 paycheck in a 30-lap contest under threatening skies.
Much like Forsberg, Corey Day also pulled a mulligan due to his last place finish in the previous night’s feature and was rewarded with a second-place finish.
Jodie Robinson took advantage of a green-white-checkered finish to pass Dominic Scelzi in the last two laps to fill out the podium. Kaleb Montgomery was also able to get past Scelzi who made an attempt on Day for the second spot, but his car washed up and before he could recover, he lost two valuable spots and had to settle for fifth.
Forsberg quickly jumped to the front on the opening lap after starting from the outside pole. The Silver Dollar Speedway veteran was flawless up front while an exciting battle was developing for second between Day and Scelzi.
The race was slowed several times for minor spins, but the single file restarts allowed the master Forsberg to maintain the front spot. The race was stopped on lap 20 when R. .C Smith flipped in the third turn.
The race’s final caution waved on lap 28 for a stopped car on the frontstretch, setting up a two-lap dash for cash.
