AMARILLO, Texas — Chris Douglas mounted a late charge to win Saturday night’s Lyndon Moss Memorial for 305 sprint cars at Route 66 Motor Speedway.
Fifteen-year-old Braxton Wilson set a torrid pace to lead the field for the first 24 laps of the 30-lap event.
But a yellow flag brought the field back together for an epic battle for the $10,000 prize. Douglas pounced coming off turn four to slip past Wilson for the lead. John Carney in the Coyote Candle No. 74b would also get past Wilson.
“The car was horrible at the start and I fell to fifth, but as the race went on the track started coming to me, and I worked my way back up to second,” Douglas said. “That yellow flag is what I needed to get a chance to win this event in honor of one of Amarillo’s great racers.”
Carney finished second, ahead of Wilson, Zach Blurton and Colby Stubblefield.
