ATLANTA – Tim Crawley used a sweep of all three United Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear sprint-car divisions and 15 feature wins in 32 starts to capture his first USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour National Championship in 2012.
Crawley entered every 2012 USCS contest in the Ward Racing Lucas Oil sponsored No. 88 winged sprint-car owned by former USCS regional champion Mike Ward.
In addition to the 15 USCS feature wins he had 28 top five finishes. His other four feature race finishes were all in the top 10 positions. He collected 4,937 National points plus two regional series titles in the USCS Mid-South Thunder and USCS Southern Thunder divisions en-route to the National crown.
The 2011 and 10-time USCS National Champion Terry Gray finished in the runner-up position in the National standings during the 2012 title chase with 4,690 points. Gray had 22 top-five finishes, including a feature race win on March 30 at Batesville Motor Speedway. He finished in the top 10 a total of 27 times this season.
The 2008 USCS Rookie of the Year, Anthony Nicholson, had 21 top-five and 27 top-10 finishes, plus a victory at Batesville Motor Speedway in July to finish in the third position in the final 2012 National standings with 4,631 points.
More than 100 different drivers competed in the 32 USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by Goodyear events held at 20 different tracks in eight states. Thirteen different drivers won 2012 main events.
Jeff Willingham, who finished in eighth place in the 2012 USCS National point standings and ninth in the USCS Mid-South regional series points, earned the 2012 USCS presented by Goodyear Rookie of the Year. That distinction goes to the top finishing driver in the USCS standings that started the 2012 season with less than 25 races entered in 360 winged sprint car competition.
