Carrick Stars In Johnny Key Classic Opener

WATSONVILLE, Calif. — Tanner Carrick won night one of the 64th annual Johnny Key Classic at Ocean Speedway on Friday night.

Carrick dominated the 30-lap sprint car feature in his California Waterfowl No. 83t, taking home $2,000 for his efforts.

Both Bud Kaeding and Gauge Garcia took turns challenging Carrick, but the Lincoln, California driver led the entire distance after starting on the pole while both two had to settle for respective podiums finishes.

The race went non-stop green for 18 laps until Caeden Steele flipped on the backstretch to cause a red.

The only other stoppage was a caution for Burt Foland who spun in the first turn.  Each of these slowdowns erased two comfortable leads for Carrick.

Carrick would survive, while Kaeding and Garcia traded slide jobs in the closing laps.

The finish:

Tanner Carrick, Bud Kaeding, Gauge Garcia, Caleb Debem, Seth Standley, Travis Labat, Ashton Torgerson, Ryan Rocha, Jeremy Chisum, Grant Duinkerken, Cole Schroeder, Koen Shaw, George Tristao Jr., Jennifer Osborne,  Adrianna DeMartini, Tristan Guardino, Burt Foland Jr., Colby Johnson, Caeden Steele, Cody Key, Kurt Nelson, Joey Ancona
