BRANDON, S.D. – Huset’s Speedway officials have announced a major change to what is being called The Race, which could award the race winner ownership of the South Dakota track.
The race, scheduled for Aug. 13, will now give the race winner a choice between taking ownership of the track and all associated property or pocketing a winner’s purse of $3.6 million.
The race will only take place if at least 18 competitors enter, with each entry requiring a non-refundable $200,000 deposit. No more than 36 410 winged sprint cars will be allowed to enter the race.
Anyone entering after the registration deadline would have to pay a $75,000 late entry fee if there are any slots left in the 36-car field. The first 12 teams to sign up will also receive a VIP suite for their guests at the race with a retail value of $20,000 to include 20 tickets, the suite, food and beverages.
Track officials are planning to hold three heat races of 12 cars each, with 24 cars starting the 40-lap finale. Depending on the number of cars, there may not be heat races.
