WENTWORTH, N.H. – Shawn Berry became the fifth different winners in as many Sprint Cars of New England events this season Sunday night at Legion Speedway.
Wheeling a Triple X chassis sponsored by Varney and Sons Logging, Roya Graphix and North Country Recycling, the 24-year-old truck driver for the Town of Ossipee walloped the 21-car field with a wire-to-wire victory in the 25 lap event.
“There are just so many people I have to thank,” said Berry after his first victory in a sprint-car. “My family, my girlfriend, everybody that helps me with the car and the people who run the track.”
Former pavement supermodified and midget champion Jim Lowrey made Berry earn his maiden voyage to victory lane, challenging for the lead repeatedly in the late stages of the race.
Dan Douville charged from the 14th starting spot to finish third, former SCoNE champs Shawn Lawler and Tunk Berry finished fourth and fifth respectively.
