Abreu Holds Off Larson At Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, N.J. — Rico Abreu led all 35 laps and became the first driver to win a High Limit Racing Series sprint car event after starting on the front row Tuesday night at Bridgeport Speedway.

Abreu led championship rival Kyle Larson, the point leader, the entire distance, en route to winning his third High Limit feature of the season and banking $23,023.

It was Abreu’s 12th overall sprint car victory this season.

Larson came home second and takes a 15-point lead over Abreu into next Tuesday’s season finale at Indiana’s Lincoln Park Speedway.

Cory Eliason, Justin Sanders and Kyle Reinhardt rounded out the top five.

Fast-qualifier Buddy Kofoid made an attempt to pass Abreu for the lead on lap 19, but tangled with the lapped car of Dusty Zomer, ending his bid for victory.

Thirty-three cars were on hand.
