A Breakdown Of This Year’s PA Speedweek Field

Notable partial-week drivers

No. 57 Kyle Larson

No other race car driver in North America has more eyes on them at the moment than Larson, who’s won four NASCAR Cup Series races in a row, five sprint car races, the Chili Bowl Nationals, and even two late model races this year. He won 13 of 19 races in Pennsylvania last year and, like he always does, adds flare to the fun series.

Larson will compete at Lincoln on Monday, Grandview on Tuesday, Port Royal on Wednesday, and Hagerstown on Thursday.

No. 39 Christopher Bell

The NASCAR Cup Series driver for Joe Gibbs Racing will make his season debut in a sprint car Monday at Lincoln Speedway driving the Swindell SpeedLab No. 39. He’s also racing Grandview on Tuesday to complete his two-race swing in Pennsylvania. Bell won at Grandview two years ago and is still trying to get a hold of Lincoln.

No. 69k Lance Dewease

With win career No. 100 at Williams Grove out of the way, Dewease can now race with a clear mind. The National Sprint Car Hall of Famer has five wins on the year, including three of his last four races. His schedule is as follows: Williams Grove on Friday, Lincoln on Saturday, Grandview on Tuesday, Port Royal on Wednesday, Williams Grove the following Friday, and Port Royal the following Saturday.

No. 5x Buddy Kofoid

Long considered as the next Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell, the 19-year-old finally makes his winged sprint car debut in Pennsylvania Posse land. He has 13 total wins this year, with 11 in a midget and two in a winged sprint car. Kofoid will begin at Williams Grove on Friday, before heading to Lincoln on Saturday, BAPS on Sunday, Lincoln on Monday, Grandview on Tuesday, and Selinsgrove the following Sunday.

No. 39 Daryn Pittman

The 2013 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Car Series champion is back behind for four races in the Swindell SpeedLab No. 39. He’s raced just twice this year – the #LetsRaceTwo doubleheader at Eldora Speedway on May 8, where he finished 22nd in the first race and failed to qualify for the second feature.

Pittman’s schedule is as follows: Port Royal on Wednesday, Hagerstown on Thursday, Williams Grove next Friday, and Port Royal next Saturday.

Fred Rahmer is the all-time PA Speedweek champion, with 13 titles between 1992 and 2012. Steve Smith won the inaugural series title in 1991, while Larson is the reigning PA Speedweek king.

Forty-six different drivers have won a PA Speedweek feature, led by Rahmer’s 30 victories. Dewease is trying to equal that mark, currently sitting on 29 PA Speedweek wins entering the week.

PA Speedweek kicks off Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway and runs through July 4.
