UPLAND, Calif. – Officials from the California Lightning Sprint Car Series have released the schedule for its 28th year of open-wheel racing action.
The schedule consists of 22 dates.Â
The year will kick off on March 25 when the series joining the World of Outlaws at one of the series mainstays, Bakersfield Speedway. The showing will be the first of six at the track. The May 14 race at Bakersfield Speedway will see the California Lightning Sprint Car Series team up with the popular AMSOIL Â USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series on the same card.
Bakersfield will be host to the final two rounds of the annual CLS vs BCRA Civil War Series on Sept. 24 and Nov. 15. The November race will be run in conjunction with the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series. The Southern California-based series will also appear on longtime promoter Scott Schweitzer’s track on April 16 and June 11.
Another longtime venue for the California Lightning Sprint Car Series, Ventura Raceway, will host seven series races. That will be more than any other track. The first will be on March 26 and the last on Oct. 29. Sandwiched in the middle of the campaign will be three straight trips to the fifth-mile oval on June 25, July 9 and July 23. Other dates at the track will be April 30 and May 21.Â
Placerville Speedway will see the California Lightning Sprint Car Series journey north for four races. The first will be round No. 3 of the Civil War Series on Aug. 27. The series will return to the red clay quarter-mile oval located on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds to close the campaign with three nights of action at the Hangtown 100 on Nov. 17-19. All three races will also see the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series in action. Those final three races will be non-point races for the California Lightning Sprint Car Series.Â
One night before the first race at Placerville on Aug. 26, the California Lightning Sprint Car Series will make its lone scheduled appearance at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif. That night will be round No. 3 of the Civil War Series.
The Civil War Series, which annually matches the California Lightning Sprint Car Series against the Bay Cities Racing Ass’n, will begin on April 2 at Merced Speedway during the annual Wayne Albright Memorial.Â
In addition to the 19 mentioned races, three dates, Sept. 9-10, and Oct. 8, are at tracks to be announced.
