INDIANAPOLIS — Travis Young’s success in the 2012 USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series makes the driver work hard for each win, including his victory Friday night at Bryant Heating and Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome.
Young’s qualifying time put him on the put him on the outside of the third row at the start of the 50-lap feature.
Must See Racing sprint car and supermodified driver and former Speedrome midget champion Sondi Eden started the race from the pole and paced the field for the first 38 laps. Natasha Cox stalked Eden for 33 laps, finally passing her in turn one, only to spin exiting turn two.
Cox’s spin and the resulting caution flag allowed Young to get into position to make his bid for the lead. He finally moved around Eden to take the top spot on lap 39. Cordy Horn and Dameron Taylor followed in Young’s wake to move around Eden to notch the second and third positions.
When the checkered flag waved, Young led Horn, Taylor, Eden and Jessica Bean to the stripe.
