AUCKLAND, New Zealand –Â Western Springs Speedway will be without a home following the track’s season finale on March 16 in New Zealand.
Regional Facilities Auckland, who manage the grounds where the track is located, has confirmed to New Zealand’s Stuff that they will not be renewing Springs Promotions Ltd’s lease at the track.
Western Springs has been home to Western Springs Speedway for 90 years. A proposal to move the speedway to Colin Dale Park in nearby Wiri has not yet been heard by local government officials.
An Auckland Council spokesman told Stuff that the speedway’s future would be considered by the Finance and Performance Committee in April.
Should the track be moved to Colin Dale Park, speedway facilities would still need to be built at the new location.
Western Springs Speedway has become a home away from home for many American sprint car and midget competitors during the offseason, with drivers like Shane Stewart, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and Tyler Courtney racing there last winter.
