LEBANON, Ind. – Rookie Dameron Taylor demonstrated a veteran’s patience to take the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series win Friday at the Indianapolis Speedrome.
Starting on the outside of the third row, Taylor used 47 laps of the 50-lap feature to move up through the field, including a 20-lap battle with Young for second place.
Taylor dived inside of Natasha Cox and her Beast Ford to take the lead on lap 48. Young, running right on Taylor’s bumper, followed him by Cox to nab second place. Cox had led the entire race up until that point.
Further back in the field the racing was hard fought. Jessica Bean brought out two yellows while adjusting to a back-up car.
Her number No. 9 Hammer Racing beatbyagirl.com Kenyon was damaged in the July 23 dust up with Travis Young. Young was also running a back-up car on the 20th. Each time Bean went to the tail on the restart and was forced to battle back up through the field. She eventually finished fifth. Cordy Horn came home in 4th to complete the top five finishers.
