LAKEPORT, Calif. – Tanner Swanson celebrated his recent marriage with an impressive victory in the Bay Cities Racing Ass’n midget feature at the Lakeport Speedway Saturday night.
Swanson drove Bob Rosen’s Red Line Oil Beast/Fontana to the 30-lap victory on the fast paved oval in just more than six minutes, taking the lead on the fourth lap with an inside pass of Jodi Snider on the backstretch as they entered turn three.
Swanson started on the outside of the second row, passing Brian Gard on the second lap for second position while third-starting Chad Nichols dropped to fourth. Nichols, who had sustained chassis damage when he slammed his Beast/Esslinger into the front wall during qualifying, began dropping back with handling problems, allowing Darin Snider to slip into fourth. Gard also lost his momentum and slipped to fifth by the third round.
On the fifth circuit Darin Snider pulled into third behind his sister. They ran side-by-side at the line on the next lap before Darin Snider took command of second, setting his sights on Swanson. Darin Snider’s vision of a challenge for the lead evaporated as Swanson sustained and then elongated his lead in the quick-paced event as the leaders began lapping several cars.
The event went wire-to-wire without a caution with Swanson setting a blistering pace over the field en route to the checkered flag. He was followed by Darin Snider, Jodi Snider, Cody Gerhardt and Gard.
