Midgets Return To IRP Wednesday Night

BROWNSBURG, Ind. — National Pavement Midgets will return to Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park Wednesday night (Aug. 14) for the second appearance of the season for the highly popular open-wheel racers at the historic Indiana oval.

The National Pavement Midgets will be joined by Focus/Eco Tech Midgets. In addition, 10 drivers will participate in the High-Performance Lubricants All-Star Midget Spectacular presented by Engler Machine and Tool. The 20-lap event will feature celebrity open-wheel drivers Kaylee Bryson, Bobby Santos III, Kody Swanson, Jake Trainor, Kyle O’Gara, Jim Anderson and Jerry Coons Jr.

This special 20-lap event will also include dirt late model star Ricky Thornton Jr., 1991 Night Before the 500 winner Mike Fedorcak and Sprint Car Hall of Famer champion Sammy Swindell.

The National Pavement Midget entrants include Santos III, Swanson, O’Gara, Trainer, Justin Grant, Chuck Gurney and Logan Seavey among others. Several drivers will attempt to do double duty between the High-Performance Lubricants All-Star Midget Spectacular presented by Engler Machine and Tool event and the 30-lap National Pavement Midget event.

Since the return of National Pavement Midgets to IRP in 2020, the division continues to grow each season with multiple events at the track with strong fields and good purses. This will be the third of four visits to the track for the series in 2024.

The event was originally scheduled to be part of its Thursday Night Thunder series but was pushed back a day in honor of former USAC National Sprint Car Series champion Levi Jones. Jones is being honored with a race in his honor at Red Hill Raceway the following evening.

The date change will allow more competitors to compete in the event. Wednesday night’s IRP event is now being billed as Wednesday Night Thunder.

Spectator gates for Wednesday’s event will open at 6 p.m. with practice beginning immediately. Opening Ceremonies begin at 8 p.m. with racing to follow.
