ROSSBURG, Ohio — Non-winged 600 midgets at this year’s 24th running of the Rumble in Fort Wayne presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales will again be under the sponsorship of the Laborer’s International Union of North America (LiUNA).
New to the sponsorship this year will be the LiUNA Achiever Award — a $250 bonus to the driver accumulating the most points over the course of the two-day event, Dec. 30 and 31.
“Recently, our LiUNA General President Terry O’Sullivan was quoted as saying, ‘Let’s rise to every challenge, let’s seize every opportunity, let’s overcome every setback and let’s win every battle,’” said Gary Bretz, LiUNA representative. “We see those same traits among the many non-winged 600 midgets that move their racing program indoors each December and feel proud to attach our name to their chase.
“Their efforts will not go unnoticed. From qualifying, to the heats and through the main event, points will be earned by the racers and at the conclusion of Saturday’s competition, we will be recognizing the driver accumulating the most points with the LiUNA Achiever Award.”
Utilizing the same basic set-up that they use throughout the summer on dirt tracks throughout the area, the non-winged LiUNA 600’s move their program indoors to the purposely built one-sixth-mile concrete oval inside the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum each December.
Each night they are joined by midgets, winged 600 midgets, go-karts, and quarter midgets in complete racing programs of qualifying, heat races and a main event. Justin Harper and Tyler Gunn toppled the veterans last year and are the defending non-winged 600 midget winners.
