ANDERSON, Ind. — We asked the 500 Sprint Car Tour and USSA Kenyon Midget Series drivers who attended the series’ media day on Thursday afternoon at the Anderson Country Club what their goals were for the upcoming season, which begins April 8 at Anderson Speedway.
Yesterday, we featured the 500 Sprint Tour drivers. Here’s what the midget racers had to say.
Kenyon Midget Series Drivers
Landon Brown: “We’re taking this season to learn. It’s my first year in a midget, coming from karting. I’m especially looking forward to the high speeds at Anderson, and also all the dirt tracks.”
Phil Brown: “To complete as many laps as possible and gain enough experience to help myself and my son be successful.”
Kyle Ford: “To win the Kenyon Midget championship. I finished third last year as a rookie. I want to finish all the races with as many points as possible.”
Clayton Gaines: “To win the championship. I was fourth last year.”
Evan Hammond: “Coming from karts, I am very new to this. I’m coming in with an open mind. Every driver wants to win, but it’s wise to be realistic. So my goal is to learn as much as I can. I hope to get Rookie of the Year. My baseline goal is learning week in and week out.”
Jeff Hill: “I think it’s just to learn to drive a car with shocks and suspension. We’ve been in karting for 12 years, so this will be a new learning experience.”
Dezi Pedregon: “To get my first win in the series, and to improve my career as a driver. Brad has done a great job with this series, and it’s very popular now. I want to use this series as a stepping-stone to other series in the future.”
Kyle Sheard: “Just to be competitive and run up front with the more experienced guys. This will be my first year in a Kenyon midget.”
Dameron Taylor (defending champion): “To see if I can get through a whole year with no crashes. I want to get through the season and have fun and make more friends.”
Cash Wyke: “To win rookie of the year. I’m coming from karting, and the season opener will be my first Kenyon midget race.”
