SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. – Former Badger Midget Auto Racing Ass’n President DeWitt Pangborn died on Dec. 16 in Nokomis, Fla., at the age of 81.
Pangborn was elected BMARA president for the 1982 and ’83 seasons, and again in 1985. Among his highlights as president were the return of midget auto racing to The Milwaukee Mile in 1983, and a 24-race, nine track schedule in 1985.
He was also active as a car owner and team member for brother Tim Pangborn. DeWitt scored the runner-up position in the 1977 Badger Midget car owner points, his best finish as an owner. DeWitt was founder and owner/operator of All Star Sportswear in West Allis, Wis., for several decades before retiring. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf.
Pangborn is survived by his loving wife of sixty-years, Sharryl (nee Pries) Pangborn and his children Sharilyn (Dale) Olson, Thomas (Susan) Pangborn, Cathiane (Jeffrey) Porasik, and Patrick (Kimberly) Pangborn. DeWitt is also survived by his brother Timothy (Janet) Pangborn, brother-in-law, Jared (Anne) Pries and sisters-in-law Jilayne Ashburn and Marjorie Pangborn, 11 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
