Returning to racing action back in March, Ashton Torgerson returned to victory lane in micro action and picked up two top-10’s in a winged sprint car this past weekend.
Friday and Saturday night is another return for the youngster as he will team up with Tanner Thorson Racing and make his first start in a midget since his scary accident at the Chili Bowl.
“I am really excited to get back in a midget this weekend,” Torgerson said. “It has been great being back in a car the last couple months, and I’m excited for this challenge.”
Returning to action back in March, Torgerson has primarily been competing in his Rowdy Energy backed Micro and has tallied five podium finishes including one feature event win in his nine micro starts to date this year.
Also competing in winged sprint car competition, Torgerson has three starts to his credit with two top-10’s coming at Ocean (Calif.) Speedway and Thunderbowl Raceway.
This weekend will mark Torgerson’s first ever outdoor midget start as he will battle with the POWRi Midget Series on Friday night at the Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex and on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. with Tanner Thorson Racing.
Thorson is no stranger to midget racing as he picked up a Chili Bowl championship in 2022 to go along with USAC National Championship in 2016. Thorson has also compiled 27 career USAC National Midget feature event wins and currently sits tied for 14th all time with Gary Bettenhausen and Tony Stewart.
“This is a really cool opportunity to run with a Chili Bowl champion and a USAC champion like Tanner Thorson,” Torgerson added. “I am looking forward to running a very nice car, and learning as much as I can in two nights of action.”
