As of Friday night, Ashton Torgerson was cleared to leave the hospital, according to the Torgerson Racing’s Twitter page.
Torgerson experienced a horrific crash on Wednesday night at the Chili Bowl Nationals where he was ejected from his No. 1i midget as it flipped on the track. He was in the midst of making his Chili Bowl debut.
The 16-year-old was transported to the hospital shortly after the wreck, but it was reported that he was “awake and alert” at the time. Since Wednesday, the Oregon native has undergone several tests and CTs, continuing to make positive progress towards recovery.
Early Thursday morning, the family shared that the first thing Torgerson asked was “what place he was in” and expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming show of support from the dirt track community.
Then, on Friday afternoon, Torgerson Racing tweeted that Torgerson had gotten out of the hospital bed for the first time and took a short walk. Though it was previously reported that he had a significant brain bleed, according to the latest report, the bleed is stable and “has not gotten worse.”
He is now cleared to leave the hospital.
