Lapped Traffic Helps Fitzpatrick

HAUBSTADT, Ind. — Blake Fitzpatrick picked up his first victory with the Midwest Sprint Car Series Sunday evening at Tri-State Speedway.

Hunter Schuerenberg took the lead early and looked like he had the race well in hand until a caution flag on lap 15 allowed Fitzpatrick to close the gap. Schuerenberg jumped out to a quick lead during the restart, but Fitzpatrick didn’t give up.

Within a few laps Schuerenberg was in lapped traffic and Fitzpatrick took advantage, passing him with two laps left in the 30-lap feature to secure the victory at the quarter-mile dirt oval.

Schuerenberg wound up second after leading most of the race. Brady Short was third, followed by Critter Malone and Chase Stockon.

The finish:
Blake Fitzpatrick, Hunter Schuerenberg, Brady Short, Critter Malone, Chase Stockon, Kyle Cummins, Jonathan Hendrick, Kevin Thomas, Jr., Jeff Bland, Jr., Braylon Fitzpatrick, Adam Nigg, Jonathan Vennard, Mark Perry III, J.C. Bland, Chase Briscoe, Ethan Barrow, Brandon Mattox, Mitch Wissmiller, Chris Babcock, Alex Shanks, Kurt Gross.
