WEEDSPORT, N.Y. — Daryn Pittman led the first 24 laps, but Randy Hannagan took the lead on the final circuit to win the 25-lap 360 sprint-car feature on the opening night of the New York 360 Sprint Challenge, which was sanctioned by the United Racing Co. at Cayuga County Speedway Friday.
“It’s usually me who gets beat on the final lap but tonight it was a different outcome,” said Hannagan, who banked $3,000 for the triumph. “I was closing on Pittman but was not in reach unless something went wrong, and it did.”
Hannagan was making reference to Pittman tangling will a slower car the opened the door wide to Hannagan to make the winning pass. It was Hannagan’s first career URC victory and made him the 16th different URC victor this season.
With 47 sprint cars on hand for the event, Pittman led the first 24 circuits of the half-mile oval and finished second.
Steve Poirier finished second ahead of Curt Michael and Jessica Zemken.
