DODGE CITY, Kan. — Landing his 10th career victory with the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com Friday night at Dodge City Raceway Park, Jason Martin wrestled the lead from Howard Moore at the race’s midpoint and held on to win night one of the Steve King Memorial.
“It’s nice being able to race hard wheel-to-wheel with people and they give you room. Howard’s always been a really good racer, and I appreciate and respect him for that, but traffic got a little sketchy there,” said Martin.
It was Martin’s sixth ASCS victory of the season.
Martin rolled to second on the start as Howard Moore shot into the lead.
Slowed on lap three as Wayne Johnson found himself missing the right front on his No. 2c sprint car, Moore put distance on the field when the race resumed. Cutting the gap from 1.205 seconds to .424 seconds over four laps, Martin was able to roll to the lead on lap 12.
Working through traffic, Martin was boxed in with five laps to go, opening the door for Moore, who took a shot but could not make the pass stick.
Martin pulled away to a 1.497-second advantage at the checkered flag. Moore finished second, followed by Whit Gastineau, Matt Covington and Landon Britt.
