RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Brodix Frontier Region of the American Sprint Car Series is back in action with the National Tour this weekend at the Black Hills Speedway in South Dakota for the Rushmore Rumble.
Wayne Johnson is coming off a sweep of the Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway in Montana, the two victories being his first ASCS National Tour triumphs of this season. Those wins solidified him in fifth place in the points standings. Johnson looks to continue his run of momentum and find victory lane again this weekend.
On the Frontier Region side, a couple of more races have the points standings more focused after the usual late season start and some weather left the series only having run a couple of events before last weekend. David Hoiness comes into this weekend in second place in the Frontier Region point standings, now only 18 tallies behind D.J. Brink. Both drivers are pursuing first ASCS championships.
Brink, who posted a pair of podium finishes in the Frontier Region’s opening week of action in early June, looks to get back into a groove at his home track after posting finishes of 16th and 11th last weekend at Gallatin Speedway. On June 2 at the season opener at Black Hills Speedway, Brink finished second to feature winner Eric Lutz.
Last year’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour races at Black Hills Speedway were swept by Johnny Herrera, who currently sits fourth in points with no victories this season but a solid eight top-five finishes and 17 top-10 results to his credit. Former ASCS National champion Aaron Reutzel posted podium finishes both nights in 2016.
Sam Hafertepe Jr. leads the series with nine victories and won the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup last month at Skagit Speedway in Washington. The defending ASCS national champion, however, has struggled in recent weeks but is still leading the points by 50 tallies over Reutzel.
Modifieds and hobby stocks are the support classes for both nights of the Rushmore Rumble with the Brodix ASCS Frontier Region and Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by MAVTV Motorsports Network, this weekend at Black Hills Speedway.
