INDIANAPOLIS – James French won a rain-shortened Formula Atlantic main event Saturday during the 58th SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The event was called after 12 laps when storms moved through the historic grounds during a caution period for leader Alex Mayer, who made contact with Spencer Brockman in a battle for the lead.
The win for French is his second Runoffs victory in eight appearances. He also managed to set a new Runoffs race record at Indianapolis in the class with a lap of 1 minute, 30.650 seconds. Keith Grant grabbed the runner-up finish for his ninth podium in 23 Runoffs appearances.
Rob Radmann earned hard-charger honors, racing to an 11th-place finish from the 15th-starting spot.
