Calvert & Udell Unite For PWC SprintX Program

Preston Calvert and Alec Udell will partner for a full season assault on the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX Championship this year.

POTOMAC, Md. – Preston Calvert and Alec Udell will partner for a full season effort in the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX Championship.

The two will come together with Calvert Dynamics in partnership with GMG Racing for an assault on the Pro/Am category of the championship in the No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3-R. The SprintX category features 60-minute races with driver changes and pitstops.

Calvert is coming off a strong 2016, his sophomore season in pro competition, moving from GT Cup up to GTA and also SprintX, highlighted by a double victory at Utah Motorsports Campus in August in the Calvert Dynamics/Phoenix Performance Porsche 911 GT3-R.

Calvert is partnering with the 21-year-old Udell for the SprintX program, which includesfive race weekends and 10 races.

Also back with Calvert Dynamics are driver coach Andrew Davis and Porsche engineering ace Stefan Pfeiffer.

“The Calvert Dynamics team had some hard-won success last year in the first year of the SprintX race format of Pirelli World Challenge,” said Calvert. “Those first two professional race wins at Utah Motorsports Campus were the highlight of my brief racing career so far, and have encouraged me to continue racing in the SprintX format with Pirelli World Challenge. Alec Udell approached me about running the full SprintX series for 2017, and it seems like a great fit. He is a very fast, cerebral young race driver, who was very generous with his performance data and advice to me when we were competitors together in the GT Cup class. I hope to continue to improve my own ability to drive the GT3-R, and with luck, Alec and I will be able to have some success in the Pro-Am category of SprintX.”

For each driver it’s an all out sprint for their 30-minutes, but you’ve got to be smart and keep the car clean to pass off to your co-driver. Bridging the gap between a full endurance race and a sprint race, I think it’s a wonderful platform.”
