ZANDVOORT, The Netherlands — Marco Wittmann put on an incredible show at Circuit Zandvoort on Sunday, driving from 14th to the win in the sixth DTM race of the season. He even prevailed after contact with Mirko Bortolotti which made him think it could be a race-ender.Â
“I would never have thought that I would drive from so far back to the very front and win. After the contact with Mirko Bortolotti, my heart sank into the soles of my feet,” Wittmann said. “There was so much smoke in the cockpit that at times I could hardly see anything. I am simply overjoyed that I have brought home this victory.”
Bortolotti ended up taking home second place after outdueling Kelvin van der Linde in an epic battle. Van der Linde settled for third.Â
“When you take the lead in the first corner and are in the lead for so many laps, you obviously want to win,” van der Linde said. “In the end, I have to be happy with second place. In the last few laps, the rear axle felt strange, the drivers behind me were putting a lot of pressure on me.”
Thierry Vermeulen and Luca Stolz rounded out the top five.Â
