KLETTWITZ, Germany — Torrential rain and two race interruptions couldn’t stop Kelvin van der Linde on Saturday at the Dekra Lausitzring.
The Audi driver from Abt Sportsline stayed cool in sometimes adverse conditions, made no mistakes and celebrated his sixth DTM victory after 38 laps.
“What a chaotic race,” van der Linde said. “The key to success was that I was able to defend my lead in the hectic opening phase. Because at the top I had significantly better visibility. Nevertheless, it was racing at the limit because there was a lot of water on the track, especially at the beginning.”
With the win, van der Linde took over the championship lead.
With a gap of around 2.5 seconds, Maro Engel (Monaco/Mercedes-AMG Team Winward) took second place in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 thanks to clever tactics. Defending champion Thomas Preining (A) came third in the Porsche 911 GT3 R from the Manthey EMA team.
