ELKHART LAKE, Wis. – Michael McCann Jr., who swept the TCR weekend at Watkins Glen Int’l last time out, kept the momentum going in his No. 3 McCann Racing Audi RS3 LMS at Road America on Saturday.
McCann took the TCR race one pole with a fastest lap of 2:19.353, four tenths of a second faster than his nearest rival.
“Pole at Road America feels good,” said McCann. “I’m not making it easy on the team, as they had to stay late last night rebuilding the car after an incident in practice, so thanks to them. The car felt great and the team gave me a really good car. I also want to give Brian Till a shoutout and wish him a speedy recovery, we miss you dearly here.”
For most of the session it was Victor Gonzalez, in the No. 99 VGMC Honda Civic Type R, who led the way with a 2:19.803 lap before McCann’s late flier. Gonzalez will start second.
Nate Vincent, in the No. 72 FCP Euro VW Golf GTI, will start third after putting down a best time of 2:19.916. TCR championship leader Michael Hurczyn will start fourth in the No. 71 FCP Euro VW Golf GTI, with James Walker and the No. 34 Risi Competizione Alfa Romeo Giulietta rounding out the top five.
The TCR Cup pole went to Bryan Putt in the No. 15 BSport Audi RS3 LMS, with a best time of 2:23.841. Christian Cole in the No. 27 McCann Racing Audi RS3 LMS will start second in class.
In TCA, it was Chris Haldeman claiming pole in the No. 69 X-Factor Racing Honda Civic Si with a 2:34.437 fastest lap, 1.3 seconds ahead of Mark Pombo in the No. 59 MINI JCW Team MINI Cooper JCW at 2:35.737.
Mat Pombo and the No. 61 MINI JCW Team MINI Cooper JCW will start third after a best lap of 2:35.778. Nick Wittmer in the No. 91 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ tS starts fourth, with Nate Norenberg and the No. 60 MINI JCW Team MINI Cooper JCW fifth.
Cole Ciraulo in the No. 25 X-Factor Racing Honda Civic Si will start the race sixth, with Dean Copeland in the No. 70 Copeland Motorsports Mazda Global MX5 Cup seventh and Tomas Mejia in the No. 62 MINI Team JCW MINI Cooper JCW eighth.
P.J. Groenke and the No. 44 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ tS starts ninth, with point leader Tyler Maxson in the No. 74 Copeland Motorsports Mazda Global MX5 Cup 10th.
