Percat Prevails In Supercars’ Tasmania SuperSprint

TASMANIA — Nick Percat and Matt Stone Racing prevailed in Saturday’s Tasmania SuperSprint in the Repco Supercars Championship.

The event was broadcast LIVE by SPEED SPORT 1. Supercars race again on Sunday at 1 a.m. ET, LIVE on SPEED SPORT 1

Percat held off a hard-charging Chaz Mostert to score his second win of the season, his first since March.

“I don’t think anyone can say we lucked into it with people spearing off, or anything,” said Percat, who moved from ninth to sixth in the standings.

“The Bendix car has been on rails since we rolled out the truck. It is a pleasure to drive. I can’t thank Matt [Stone], [engineer Jack] Belotti, everyone on my car [enough].

“The faith is there, and when you’ve got the faith you go well. The thing was a jet. Obviously Chaz was coming on his three tyres but I felt I could control the race.”

It was a stellar day for Mostert, who cut points leader Will Browns’ lead down from 105 to 63 markers after opting for an alternate strategy during the race at Symmons Plains.

Broc Feeney placed third after winning the pole on Friday. He’s now 120 points out of the championship lead in third. Cam Waters and Brodie Kostecki completed the top-five finishers.

Brown salvaged a seventh-place result after qualifying 16th on the grid.

Cameron Hill, Brown, Tim Slade, David Reynolds and Bryce Fullwood were the remaining top 10.
