Mostert Takes Sydney Supercars Victory

SYDNEY, Australia — Chaz Mostert scored the victory in the Repco Supercars Championship event at Sydney Motorsport Park, supplanting himself back in the championship fight.

The event was broadcast LIVE on SPEED SPORT 1.

After a successful strategic drive two weeks ago at Townsville, Mostert did it again as he got the best of Matt Payne at the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight after taking over the lead with four laps remaining.

“The car was really good. Probably had a few different strengths and weaknesses than the guys around me in the first couple of stints,” said Mostert. “Our team was the man of the match for having a super-fast car today. We had to work for it at the start and in those stints, of build gaps. But it was a lot of fun.”

It was the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver’s second victory of the season.

His title hopes increased as points leader Will Brown finished sixth and second-running Broc Feeney placed ninth in the event. Mostert is now only 126 markers out of the title lead and 30 behind Feeney.

It was an all-Ford top five as Thomas Randle, Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale placed third through fifth.

Polesitter Cam Waters finished seventh due to fuel flow issues.

Race 16 of the Supercars championship airs LIVE on SPEED SPORT 1 at 2:00 a.m. ET.Â
