Fresh off his Bathurst 1000 victory two weeks ago, Brodie Kostecki captured the Repco Supercars Championship victory in Sunday’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 finale at Surfers Paradise.
Kostecki dominated the event from pole position throughout the 85-lap race as he crossed the finish line 3.470 seconds ahead of points leader Will Brown and Brown’s teammate, Broc Feeney.
“Credit to the whole team, they tuned it up for today, so stoked about that,” Kostecki said. “Really fast car and it really came to life towards the end there. We’re probably going to jump into the ocean right about now because we’re all a bit hot and bothered.
“Awesome race, really fast car, it was just flawless once again. Great execution by the team, the strategy was great, it’s awesome.”
It was heartbreak, however, for Chaz Mostert.
Mostert was a contender until he was forced to pit his Walkinshaw Andretti United Ford for a third time due to his team using the wrong fuel rig on the previous stop. He was relegated to an 11th-place finish.
Behind the podium finishers of Kostecki, Brown and Feeney, Saturday’s winner, Cam Waters, placed fourth with Thomas Randle rounding out the top-five finishers.
With one race remaining in the Repco Supercars Championship, Brown holds a 180-point advantage over Feeney. Only those two drivers can mathematically win the title with Mostert (-309) and Waters (-428) out of contention.
