INDIANAPOLIS – Drew Staveley completed a sweep of Pirelli GT4 America Sprint competition on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Friday.
Staveley brought the Pirelli GT4 America Sprint field to the green flag for the final time this year from the pole. Behind him, Michael Cooper got by Paul Terry entering turn one to take second overall.
However, Staveley would stay out front and never look back, going on to take the win to complete the weekend sweep.
“This is something I could have only dreamed of. Sweeping a weekend is so hard to do and the team has tried so hard this season, it is so special to do it here at Indy. The team gave me a great setup today and I could really do anything with the car I wanted to, hats off to the team.” said Staveley.
Terry maintain third overall, which kept him in the lead of the Am field ahead of class champion Michael Dinan, who ran second in class and fourth overall.
Ten minutes into the event Dinan managed to sneak past Terry for first in Am, third overall, at the turns 11-12-13 complex. Jarret Andretti would close on the back of Terry for fifth overall, with Jeff Courtney hanging back third in class, sixth overall.
As the race reached the halfway point, Staveley held the overall lead by 4 seconds ahead of Cooper, with Dinan extending the Am lead to 3.8 seconds over Terry.
As the race went on, Dinan started to hunt down Cooper for second overall, pulling to within .195 seconds with 10 minutes left on the clock. Staveley would keep his four second lead over the rest of the field.
On the white flag lap, Dinan kept pushing Cooper for second overall and pulled to the outside of the McLaren as the two went through turn 13. The duo would drag race to the checkered flag, with Dinan getting the position by a mere .013 seconds.
“A special place to finish it off here at Indy and this is a great way to round out the season, winning both Sprint and SprintX. Flying Lizard did a fantastic job this whole season with the Aston Martin, so I’m extremely happy to win the Sprint, SprintX and teams championships,” said Dinan.
