ALTON, Va. – The NOLASPORT combination of Jason Hart and Matt Travis continued their impressive run in the Pirelli GT4 America SprintX Pro-Am class this year with a fourth consecutive race win Sunday at Virginia Int’l Raceway.
Hart, starting from the pole in the No. 47 NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman Clubsport MR GT4 sports car, fought with Saturday’s GT4 SprintX overall winner Stevan McAleer early in the 26-lap event with some sensational nose-to-tail action on the 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course.
Hart transferred his driving duties to Travis in the mid-point of the race and McAleer, the early leader, turned his No. 29 Raphael & Associates/Classic BMW BMW M4 GT4 machine to Justin Raphael at lap 17. Raphael left the pit area in the overall lead, but a miscalculation had the BMW driver leaving the pits just three-tenths of a second too fast At the conclusion of the race, the McAleer/Raphael duo was penalized 30 seconds due to the rules infraction and finished 11th overall.
A late-race yellow flag period caused the race to finish behind the safety car and Travis pulled his Porsche into victory lane for the GT4 SprintX overall win as well as the SprintX Pro-Am honors.
“It was an unusual situation with the penalty, but thankful for the result today,” Travis said. “Jason drove a great first stint and I went out and did my best in between the caution periods. We are thrilled to bringing home an overall win for NOLASPORT today.”
Finishing second overall and capturing the GT4 SprintX East Pro-Am class was the No. 22 Precision Racing Tech BMW M4 GT4 with Marko Radisic and Karl Wittmer at the wheel in the two-driver, one-hour contest.
Winning the GT4 SprintX Am division and placing third overall was the combination of Jeff Burton and Vesko Kozarov, giving the Utah-based team double class victories this weekend at VIR.
Completing the top-five overall Sunday was fourth overall and second the GT4 SprintX Pro-Am category for the driving duo of Chris Ohmacht and Toby Grahovec, with Sean Quinlan and Greg Liefooghe fifth overall and third in the Pro-Am class .
In addition, Thomas Collingwood and John Tecce drove their No. 69 BGB Motorsports Group Porsche 718 Cayman Clubsport MR car to winning honors in the GT4 SprintX East Am category Sunday at VIR.
