Formula Americas Super GP Set For Launch

MEXICO CITY – Series officials have announced the launch of the Formula Americas Super GP championship, a division with open-wheel cars, carbon chassis and BMW engines.

The new championship is designed as the first step to get out of karting; the call is open to drivers starting at the age of 14.

Formula Americas Super GP is a collaboration between the United States and Mexico, directed by veteran team owner Jonathan N. Lewis (USA) and FIA F4 NACAM CEO Flavio Abed (Mexico), who has also been the director of special events within the Mexican Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The Formula Americas Super GP will have two seasons. The first (winter season) will run from January to May and the second (summer season) will run from June to October.

The prize fund for each season is $325,000. That includes $10,000 for each race winner, paying back to fifth place, as well as $75,000 to the champion, who will also receive
a fully-funded seat in the FIA Formula 4 NACAM International Championship.

The 2021 winter season will feature three events in the United States and two in Mexico. The races will be broadcast live and will have television coverage.

At some events, Formula Americas will share the weekend with the FIA Formula 4 NACAM Championship and the Mercedes Cup.

All cars will be series-owned and set to be the same by the series engineer, so the value
doesn’t depend on the amount of money a driver invests, but the talent each driver has behind the wheel.

Drivers will also receive a different car each event, eliminating any perception of having an uneven car for the season.

Great drivers such as Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Carlos Sainz and Alexander Rossi drove Mygale FB01 cars to win championships early in their careers at a young age.

The FB01 cars, designed and built by Mygale under the strict safety standards requested by the FIA. They feature advanced aerodynamics, adjustable multi-element front and rear spoilers, while BMW’s power is transmitted to the wheels via a Hewland 6-speed sequential gearbox.

Each car is equipped with an onboard camera and data. The total cost is less than $100,000.
