SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – DXDT Racing is expanding to a two-car Blancpain GT World Challenge America program with dual Mercedes-AMG GT3 entries set for full-season campaigns in the Pro-Am Cup division.
Team owner and driver David Askew co-drives the No. 63 USALCO/Security National Mortgage Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Ryan Dalziel, who will compete alongside new DXDT Racing teammates George Kurtz and Colin Braun in the No. 04 CrowdStrike/DXDT Mercedes-AMG GT3.
“I’m so excited to drive with Ryan and work with George Kurtz and Colin Braun,” Askew said. “My hope, and my feeling, is the two teams will complement each other. My first priority is to field the best possible car for George and Colin. I always want them to feel that DXDT put them in the best possible position to win. To that end, DXDT has its work cut out for us, but I know we are up to the challenge. I feel like this is the year for DXDT to showcase what it is capable of. We have great people, some who have been at DXDT for almost four years. It’s time to get it done!”
Kurtz and Braun step up to GT3 competition this year after success in the GT4 ranks in recent seasons. Kurtz won the 2017 Pirelli World Challenge GTSA Championship and co-drove with Braun to four top-five finishes in the class last year.
The move to up to top-tier GT racing is a natural progression for the serial entrepreneur and business leader Kurtz. This year marks his third full season in World Challenge competition and seventh consecutive year in sports car racing.
“Racing is something I love, and by its very nature, it is a place where pushing yourself to the next level is part of the landscape,” Kurtz said. “Moving up to the GT class with Mercedes-AMG is a logical progression, and DXDT is well-prepared to support our 2019 campaign. Having Colin as my co-driver, plus Ryan and David as our teammates, is really exciting. I look forward to expanding the CrowdStrike brand with this team and again at the series level.”
Kurtz is the CEO and co-founder of CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity company that recently announced with series organizers an enhanced sponsorship of the SRO America Championships. The leader in cloud-delivered endpoint protection continues in 2019 its status as the Official Internet and Cloud Security Provider for the series for the second year running.
The official announcement of Dalziel’s arrival at DXDT to partner with Askew confirms a co-driver combination that has already achieved podium success in SRO GT3 competition. In the major endurance race debut for both Askew and DXDT, Askew, Dalziel and Mike Hedlund co-drove the No. 63 Mercedes-AMG GT3 to a second-place Pro-Am finish in last October’s Intercontinental GT Challenge California 8 Hours at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
“It was great to see CrowdStrike as a series sponsor, and even better to now have them as part of our DXDT Racing family as well,” Dalziel said. “We successfully ran as a one car team with a second-place finish in the California 8 Hours, so stepping up to a two-car team will be a great benefit, particularly with George and Colin. We should be able to develop our Mercedes-AMG GT3s even quicker on race weekends. As a team, it’s also a cool moment to see DXDT becoming one of the premier teams for 2019.”
Braun will continue with the CrowdStrike racing effort in addition to running a full season in IMSA Prototype competition. Dalziel also has a full-season ride in IMSA WeatherTech competition.
“I am really looking forward to the season with George, CrowdStrike and DXDT,” Braun said. “I’m excited to be part of George’s continual move up the racing ladder. Getting to co-drive alongside him in all the races and continuing to help him grow will be a lot of fun. Having Ryan as a teammate will be great. The Blancpain GT World Challenge America season begins March 1–3 at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.
“I’m looking forward to having the feedback of three other drivers,” Askew said. “I like to sit and debrief and compare how the car is performing. Since I’m fairly new, it’s super helpful to me to hear how other drivers explain what they are feeling. This is a skill I’m working hard on, and I always want to do a better job communicating with our race engineer Jeff Lohman. Jeff’s one of the best in the business and very patient listening to my feedback, but still I can be better.”
Dalziel is an overall Rolex 24 At Daytona and Petit Le Mans race winner and the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge SprintX GT Pro-Am co-champion, a title he will pursue again in 2019 co-driving with Askew in the revamped Blancpain GT World Challenge America series.
“Although I have only worked directly for DXDT Racing for a short time, I feel like it’s a team I’ve driven with for many years,” Dalziel said “I really love the team we have put together, and it’s exciting for me to be working full time alongside someone like David Askew, an amateur driver who probably puts more time into improving his skills than most pros I know. It motivates me to help him get up to speed. I think both DXDT cars are going to be contenders in the Pro-Am class. It helps for sure to have twice the knowledge and twice the chance of success.”
