ELKHART LAKE, Wis. – Jacob Ruud, who has dominated the TC America TCX category this season, saw his winning streak snapped by Stephen Cugliari Sunday at Road America.
Cugliari, new to the TCX category, jumped to the lead at the start of the race as he defended the position from Ruud. He continued to lead until the caution flag waved after 14 minutes when Lindsay Brewer crashed in the kink, allowing Ruud to close the gap on Cugliari.
When the race resumed with 16 minutes left, Ruud drove to the left to take the lead away. However, the move drew the ire of the stewards, who deemed the pass illegal and ordered Ruud to give the lead back to Cugliari.Â
Back in the lead, Cugliari never gave up the top spot again to earn a trip to Road America victory lane as the TCX and overall race winner. Ruud settled for second, roughly one second behind Cugliari at the checkered flag.
Eric Powell topped the TC class after finishing sixth overall, with Carter Fartuch topping the TCA division with an 18th-place finish.
