Brown Snags Second Straight Sandown 500 Pole

MELBOURNE, Australia — Points leader Will Brown surged to his second straight pole position for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500.

Brown topped Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters in shootout qualifying by a mere 0.0647 seconds. It was his first pole since Bathurst in February.

The event and all Supercars races are broadcast LIVE on SPEED SPORT 1.

“I knew it would just be who didn’t stuff up out there, so I was just trying not to screw it up,” Brown said. “I just put a clean lap together and I’m stoked to get the Boost Mobile Pole Award, I’m just ecstatic, it’s been a tough round for us the last couple, we got podiums, but I really wanted to get another pole this year and try and win this weekend.

“It was tough, between one and two there was a lot of water on the road, and even this last sector down here, there was a lot of water to try and finish your lap,” Brown continued.

“Every time I went in there I was just thinking ‘Don’t stuff it up here, don’t stuff it up’ and maximise where it wasn’t wet.”

It was a crucial pole for Brown, who’s points gap has shrunk to 81 markers over Chaz Mostert.

Anton De Pasquale qualified third ahead of last year’s Repco Supercars champion, Brodie Kostecki, in fourth. Brown’s teammate Broc Feneey rounded out the top-five qualifiers.

Mostert slotted in sixth ahead of Richie Stanaway, Andre Heimgartner and Matthew Payne.

Ryan Wood went for a wild ride during the last round of qualifying when he went off into the sand trap off turn nine. He’ll start 10th.Â
