Van Der Zande & CGR Lead Rolex 24 After Four Hours

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After four hours during the 60th Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway, Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 01 Cadillac DPi leads the way with Renger van der Zande at the helm.

Van der Zande took the lead from Wayne Taylor Racing’s Will Stevens shortly after a restart just before the four hour mark. The caution was for a multi-car pileup coming back onto the oval portion of the course involving cars in the GTD, GTD PRO and LMP3 classes.

Van der Zande is sharing the No. 01 with a trio of Indy car stars, Sebastien Bourdais, Scott Dixon and reigning NTT IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou.

Action Express Racing’s No. 31 Whelen Cadillac DPi sits third with Tristan Nunez at the helm.

Meyer Shank Racing’s No. 60 entry found trouble midway through the fourth hour when a flat left-rear tire forced Helio Castroneves to bring the Acura DPi entry to the pits. That dropped him to the tail of the seven-car DPi field, but a timely caution moments later helped the team save time.

In LMP2, Tijmen van der Helm leads in the No. 69 ORECA LMP2 07 for G-Drive Racing by APR while Gar Robinson sits in the lead of LMP3 aboard the No. 74 Ligier JS P320 for Riley Motorsports.

Control of the GTD PRO category currently belongs to the No. 9 Porsche 911 GT3R  driven by Felipe Nasr for Pfaff Motorsports. The No. 62 Ferrari 488 GT3 piloted by James Calando for Risi Competizione sits second, while Alexandre Imperatori runs third in class in the No. 2 Porsche 911 GT3R for KCMG.

The GTD category is currently led by a trio of Mercedes entries. The No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Mikael Grenier at the wheel for Winward Racing leads the class, followed by the No. 28 Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Linus Lundqvist for Alegra Motorsports and the No. 32 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Steven McAleer.

The race has been slowed by three full course caution periods through the first four hours.
