BRASELTON, Ga. – After competing in a variety of series at both the professional and club level, under several manufacturers, the one thing that was certain about the Team TGM racing program is that there is always a Porsche as part of their racing efforts.
Monday the team revealed that they would align their entire racing platform under the Porsche flag, investing in the newly announced Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. Team TGM will run two of the vehicles in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2022.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport was unveiled at the LA Auto Show recently.
“Although Porsche has only just announced the new Cayman, we expect to take possession of the cars in mid-December,” said Team TGM owner/driver Ted Giovanis. “We’ll have a lot to do before making our debut in the Clubsport at the Rolex event at the end of January.
“The decision to acquire the newest Porsche Caymans was made to bring all our racing efforts under one manufacturer. I race a Porsche in International GT and just ran one at the HSR Classic 24. Last year we competed in the Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GTD category at the Rolex 24 and plan to do the same in 2022. It just makes good racing and business sense to bring all our efforts under the same manufacturer.”
The team is very excited about receiving and racing the new car.
“It’s been a bumpy couple years with the team taking a break in 2020 as the JKTG Foundation focused on COVID research, and this year’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge results have not been reflective of the tremendous effort being put forth by the team and drivers,” said Giovanis. “We are proud of winning the 2020 Mission Foods GT3 Cup Championship in International GT and still hope to repeat in 2021 with one race remaining.
“Porsche has been a part of my racing and personal life for as long as I can remember and it just seems like the right time and fit to bring all our racing efforts under the Porsche brand. We are very enthusiastic about this opportunity and believe it’s the way back to an IMSA championship in 2022.”
