Longtime racing official Marty Kaufman died March 31 following a battle with numerous health problems. He was 82 years old.
Kauffman was a drag racer in his youth and later volunteered as a race steward for sports car racing events, including with the Sports Car Club of America.
He joined the United States Auto Race Marshals in 1962.
Kaufman was appointed race director for the Trans-Am Series in the early 1980s and began working with IMSA in 1986.
Kauffman spent 25 years as race director for IMSA and the American Le Mans Series before his retirement in 2010.
He also served as an assistant race director for the 24 Hours of Le Mans for a decade.
