DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – With less than six hours left in the 60th Rolex 24, Meyer Shank Racing’s No. 60 Acura DPi leads the field at Daytona International Speedway.
Helio Castroneves is currently at the helm of the No. 60 entry that he shares with Simon Pagenaud, Oliver Jarvis and Tom Blomqvist. Action Express Racing’s No. 31 Whelen Engineering entry with Mike Conway currently at the helm runs second.
Wayne Taylor Racing’s No. 10 Cadillac DPi sits third with Alexander Rossi the current pilot. The JDC Miller Motorsports No. 5 runs fourth with Richard Westbrook currently behind the wheel.
The overnight hours were not kind to Chip Ganassi Racing or Action Express Racing’s No. 48 team.
The No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DPi was forced out of contention due to an electrical issue that forced the team to the garage for repairs. The sister No. 02 Cadillac DPi had its own trouble when a broken fuel pump sent that entry to the garage.
An on-track incident derailed the No. 48 Action Express Racing team’s chances at Rolex glory. With seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson driving, contact with a back marker forced the No. 48 to the garage for lengthy repairs.
Rui Pinto de Andrade sits on top of the LMP2 standings for Tower Motorsport while the Riley Motorsports No. 74 continues to lead the LMP3 class with Michael Cooper in the cockpit.
The GTD PRO category is down to a battle between Porsche and Ferrari. Patrick Pilet has the lead in the No. 2 Porsche 911 GT3R for KCMG while the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 with Daniel Serra at the wheel runs second, roughly 10 seconds behind the KCMG Porsche.
Inception Racing’s No. 70 McLaren 720S GT3 and driver Jordan Pepper currently lead GT Daytona with a seven second advantage on the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R with Richard Leitz the current driver.
