DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Action Express Racing No. 48 Cadillac DPi and driver Kamui Kobayashi were on top of the scoring pylon after eight hours were completed during the 60th Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway Saturday night.
Kobayashi, a two-time Rolex 24 victor and 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, guided the Ally-sponsored entry to the front of the field with 16 hours left. He’s sharing the No. 48 with seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, Mike Rockenfeller and Jose Maria Lopez.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 02 Cadillac DPi was running second at the eight hour mark with Alex Lynn at the wheel. Lynn was closing rapidly on Kobayashi just before the completion of eight hours.
The Whelen Engineering No. 31 Cadillac DPi currently runs third in class, followed by Meyer Shank Racing’s No. 60 piloted by Simon Pagenaud and the No. 5 Cadillac DPi with Loic Duval at the wheel.
Rui Pinto de Andrade leads in LMP2 for Tower Motorsport while Michael Cooper kept the No. 74 Riley Motorsports entry at the front of the field in LMP3.
Daniel Serra moved to the front of the GTD PRO category after eight hours aboard the No. 62 Ferrari 488 GT3, with Laurens Vanthoor following closely in the No. 2 Porsche 911 GT3R. Mathieu Jaminet, in another Porsche 911 GT3R, ran third.
The GT Daytona category continues to below to Mercedes, with the No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Winward Racing continuing to lead with Lucas Auer at the helm. Scott Andrews runs second in the No. 32 Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Gilbert Korthoff Motorsports.
The caution flag was waved five time thus far during the 60th anniversary Rolex 24.
